Racing Cutter. RC Series

First listed in a 1931 catalogue*, the STAR Racing Cutter, defined by its red lower and white upper hull made from yellow pine, had a range of six models RC/1, RC/2, RC/3, RC/4, RC/5, RC/6 with two sail variants. Nos. 1, 2, 3 were either Bermuda rigged with two sails or sloop rigged with three sails and the larger models having the five "Cutter" sails - see illustration. The deck was lined to represent planking. Other differences were that the two smaller models had fold flat collapsible rigging whilst the larger ones had the tubular mast mount. Rudders also differed on the models with Nos. 1 & 2 having semi fixed ones and the others having detachable running rudders. Deck lengths varied between 18" -36" with an option for larger special orders. RC/1 18", RC/2 21", RC/3 24", RC/4 27", RC/5 30", RC/6 36". Rigging was fixed to the decks by open hooks instead of the usual staples or screw eyes found on other Star series. Sails were made from pinstriped material.

1932 saw the smallest 18" model dropped and the numbering was now RC/1 - 5.

1933 a new RC/6 added with 42" hull and the range given names. RC/1 Northern Star, RC/2 Southern Star, RC/3 Eastern Star, RC/4 Western Star, RC/5 Polar Star, RC/6 no name given in the catalogues but used Polar Star. Sails now in plain cambric material with white eyelets, rigging fittings on the deck are now brass screweyes and washers. Brass deck badge now fitted.

1934 saw the RC/5 and RC/6 models dropped.

1935 production of the RC Series was stopped and deleted from the catalogues.

The largest five sail yachts were able to raise, "Furl", the top sail and mainsail to reduce the sail surface area.

* Production may have started earlier than 1931 but  I do not have any catalogue evidence, definitely not in production in 1928.
